Doily
Cardigan that was deconstructed, tired in knots and reconfigured into a doily, brass hooks. Dimensions variable.
Knot Mediation
Deconstructed cardigan transforming into a ball of yarn.
How much yarn did it take to make this cardigan?
baggy, itchy, warm, worn out
every stitch I pop, rip, pull.
Gathering the raw material to start again.
Small moves with my fingers link every string of yarn
a chain wrapped into a ball, end to end to end
wound around, and again.
My heart slows.
Begin in the center and moving outward
I count each tiny hook, twist, pull
motions become automatic.
My muscles release their grip.
Leaving it’s past behind, it becomes a doily
reconstructed for its second life
it takes up space, spread out as a vortex.
My mind finds relief.
